“Hullo, Claude, going for a walk?” “Yes, papa.” “Alone?” “No: Mary is going with me.” “Humph! If you were as giddy as Mary, I’d—I’d—” “What, papa?” “Don’t know; something bad. But, Claude, my girl.” “Yes, dear?” “Why the dickens don’t you dress better? Look at you!” The girl admonished turned merrily round, and stood facing an old bevelled-glass cabinet in the solid-looking, well-furnished library, and saw her reflection—one which for some reason made her colour slightly; perhaps with pleasure at seeing her handsome oval face with soft, deep brown hair, and large dark, well-shaded eyes—a face that needed no more display to set it off than the plain green cloth well-fitting dress, held at the throat by a dead gold brooch of Roman make.

By Mike K of Denver Jerry Robbins and the Colonial Radio Theater on the Air have created the finest expression of Jules Verne’s exciting tale 20,000 Leagues under the Sea! As usual the CRT players mirror Verne’s book chapter by chapter, capturing the adventures of Professor Arronax, his assistant Conseil, and Ned Land, master harpooner; all prisoners aboard Captain Nemo’s mysterious submarine the Nautilus. The wonderful talent of the Colonial Radio Theater actors have brought to life all of Verne’s characters while special audio effects cut the ocean as Nautilus speeds atop the waves! The original score by Jeffrey Gage is brilliant. Thank you Jerry Robbins and the Colonial Radio Theater for creating this masterpiece!

Not an easy book to put to audio, but colonial radio hits it out of the park. My only question about this title is when will it be available on DVD?

She has lived in and out of a steamer trunk for her entire adult life. While awaiting passage to Mr Edgarton's next expedition, they are residing at a popular mountain vacation hotel. One morning, her father enters into a conversation with a jaded, superficial, young stockbroker, James Barton, who is lamenting both his ennui and the intellectual dullness of beautiful young ladies. Edgarton observes that young Mr Barton wouldn't/couldn't recognize an interesting, intelligent woman due to his superficial expectation of exterior beauty equaling interior quality. Mr Barton protests this harsh judgement, and before he knows it, he has been maneuvered into horseback riding with the dowdy Eve. He soon discovers that Eve is not dull, ponderous or plain. This not-so-simple romance hinges on Barton's questionable ability to see beyond a lack of exterior polish to the true veiled quality of Eve. The author sustains the tension in this brief, lyrical romance. Will Barton be able to re-define his romantic ideal of woman? Will Eve fight for the life that she wants? Or will she drift into the vagabond existence of her explorer father? A well written little romance. Recommended.

Willa Fox promised to turn herself in.

But you can't take a thief at her word. . . .

Willa's string of good-hearted but ill-conceived thefts at her former high school Valley Prep catapulted her into a life she hardly knows. She became a cult hero, but soon afterward her mom disappeared, leaving only a cryptic message. When Willa hit the California highway to find her, she discovered a dark family secret: Joanne Fox is not who she says she is—and neither is Willa.

Now Willa and fellow troublemaker Aidan must race to St. Louis, Missouri, Willa's birthplace. There, they hope to find answers about Willa's past. But uncovering the truth requires solving a decades-old murder case.

Unfortunately, the perps are still out there . . . and willing to do whatever it takes to keep the case cold. With Willa's face on the nightly news and the police hot on her trail, it might not matter that Tre and Aidan are there to help. Willa's only hope is to find the truth before it finds her first.

Thanks to HarperCollins and Edelweiss.)This was a really good end to the series, and in my opinion the best book in the trilogy.I liked Willa in this, she still made some silly decisions, but she seemed a little more mature, and thought about things a bit more rather than acting quite so impulsively. I think Aidan helped with this a bit though, as he seemed a little more sensible in this book too.The storyline in this was pretty good, and I liked that we got a bit of action! I liked the mystery element, and I liked how it wasn’t easy to find out what had really happened to Willa’s mother. There was a touch of romance, but not a lot, although the story didn’t suffer for that. The ending was good and I was really pleased that things worked out for Willa, and that she finally had all the answers she needed. I really did like this book most out of the three, and I’m pleased that I continued with this series.Overall; good end to the series,7 out of 10.Wanted

How is this book unique?

Formatted for E-Readers, Unabridged & Original version. You will find it much more comfortable to read on your device/app. Easy on your eyes. Includes: 15 Colored Illustrations and Biography Father Brown, an ordinary priest whose unremarkable exterior conceals extraordinary crime-solving ability, is celebrated for his solutions to metaphysical mysteries, a genre perfected by his creator, G. K. Chesterton. More than lighthearted comedies built around puzzling crimes, these superbly written tales contain deeply perceptive philosophical reflections. The Innocence of Father Brown (1911) was the first collection of stories featuring the ecclesiastical sleuth and is widely considered the best. In this annotated edition of the collection, the Chesterton scholar Martin Gardner provides detailed notes and background information on various aspects of such stories as "The Blue Cross," "The Secret Garden," "The Invisible Man," "The Hammer of God," "The Eye of Apollo," and seven more, as well as an informative introduction and an extensive bibliography. Included also are eight illustrations reproduced from the first edition. The result is an indispensable companion for all Chesterton enthusiasts and a perfect introduction for anyone who has yet to meet the incomparable Father Brown.

The Innocence Of Father Brown: Color Illustrated, Formatted for E-Readers (Unabridged Version), by G. K. Chesterton

Review ''G. K. Chesterton's tales [are] of the unassuming Catholic priest who claims that his work at the confessional (where he has to do 'next to nothing but hear men's real sins') puts him in an excellent position to solve the bizarre crimes that come his way in pre-First World War England . . . The unassuming cleric, whose humble conviction that his God will eventually triumph over the souls of even the most evil of criminals, is the quiet but insistent heartbeat of these unusual exercises in detective fiction.'' --Sunday Times (London)

From the Publisher 8 1-hour cassettes

About the Author Gilbert Keith Chesterton was born in London, England, in 1874. He went on to study art at the Slade School, and literature at University College in London. Chesterton wrote a great deal of poetry, as well as works of social and literary criticism. Among his most notable books are "The Man Who Was Thursday", a metaphysical thriller, and "The Everlasting Man", a history of humankind's spiritual progress. After Chesterton converted to Catholicism in 1922, he wrote mainly on religious topics such as "Orthodoxy" and "Heretics". Chesterton is most known for creating the famous priest-detective character Father Brown, who first appeared in "The Innocence of Father Brown". Chesterton died in 1936 at the age of 62.

The Best Mystery Write EVER By Patricia Harrelson I read this on the recommendation of my 14 year old grandson who claims Chesterton is the best mystery writer EVER! My grandson just might be right. Clearly Chesterton is a highly intelligent story-crafter. This collection of short stories about Father Brown kept me awake and alert and ALWAYS surprised regarding the outcome. There was nothing formulaic or predictable in these stories. Father Brown is delightful in a Columbo fashion (perhaps the TV detective was modeled after him), and his sleuthing is remarkably unique. I loved Chesterton's use of language too. His sentences are long and luscious and his vocabulary makes reading a delicious experience. I must say, I'm quite happy to know that a 14 year old finds Chesterton so exceptional.

27 of 28 people found the following review helpful. Introducing Father Brown By Michele L. Worley The 12 stories herein can of course be found in THE COMPLETE FATHER BROWN, and THE ANNOTATED INNOCENCE OF FATHER BROWN. This is the first Brown collection, which introduces not only Father Brown himself but Flambeau, the daring thief. Father Brown worked on Flambeau during their early confrontations, and eventually persuaded him to give up his life of crime. He became Father Brown's friend and sometime sidekick, and appears in three-quarters of the stories herein, in one capacity or another."The Blue Cross" - The great detective Valentin knows that Flambeau the thief has selected a little English priest as his target, since the priest has been entrusted with a valuable cross set with sapphires. But when Valentin begins tracking the priest across the city, a very odd pattern of incidents begins to emerge."The Secret Garden" - Father Brown is a dinner guest in Valentin's home."The Queer Feet" - 'The Twelve True Fishermen', meeting for their annual fish dinner at a small, exclusive restaurant, saw the usual count of waiters - but one had died hours before! Father Brown (called in earlier for the waiter's dying confession and last rites) unravels a spectacular caper."The Flying Stars" - Flambeau's last crime (as noted in the 1st paragraph of the story), cited as an example of his love of artistically matching settings with crimes. His confrontation with Father Brown resonates nicely with the preceding story's metaphor of Brown having him on a line like a fish."The Invisible Man" - Locked-room mystery. The inventor was found murdered in his flat, but witnesses say that nobody could have gone past them without being seen."The Honour of Israel Gow" - This story actually takes place *after* "The Wrong Shape". The Earl of Glengyle was a hermit - and after finding some very odd circumstances in the Earl's home after his death, Flambeau and Father Brown begin to fear that Satanism is involved."The Wrong Shape" - The writer was a bad husband and an unpleasant man, and the beautifully penned suicide note seemed almost too good to be true."The Sins of Prince Saradine" - Flambeau takes Father Brown along to collect on the prince's invitation, sent to him during his criminal career, to visit if he were to become respectable, since he greatly admired Flambeau's stunt of once arranging for one policeman to arrest another, when both were looking for *him*."The Hammer of God" - The last two Bohuns are the curate, who pursues the beauty of his church, and the colonel, who chases women. But if he managed to catch the blacksmith's wife, it may well have been the death of him."The Eye of Apollo" - Locked-room mystery. Father Brown came to visit Flambeau, who has taken an office in a new building. Pauline Stacey, a rich idealist in a neighbouring office, fell down the empty elevator shaft that same day - when nobody else, apparently, was in the building."The Sign of the Broken Sword" - Why has Father Brown taken Flambeau to every monument to the memory of the great general, finally ending here at his grave? "Where does a wise man hide a leaf? In a forest." Someone, unfortunately, once took that saying to heart."The Three Tools of Death" - With three weapons visible on the scene, why did the victim die by a fall from a window?

16 of 16 people found the following review helpful. A wonderful collection of stories By Axver G. K. Chesterton had a writing ability that is nothing short of extraordinary. He could craft landscapes, settings, and locations with vivid textures, and possessed a cunning knack that made the ordinary seem thoroughly outlandish and the peculiar rather tame. This collection of short mysteries aptly shows off his skill as a writer; whereas most authors would use an entire novel to build tension, cultivate atmosphere, and weave a complex mystery, Chesterton could do all that in a few brief pages - and at a much higher level of quality too! Reading this book is like reading twelve beautifully crafted novels in one, such is the quality.I won't spoil the stories for you; reading this book is a rewarding journey for the imagination, meeting many characters fantastic in their normalcy or surprisingly believable and realistic in their peculiarity, visiting locations stunningly brought to life with a writing skill that is second to none, and delving into mysterious events that are often confusing, complex, and entertaining for the brain. Don't pick this book up if you want some pedestrian tales; pick it up if you want first-class storytelling that will keep you both guessing and thinking.

In 1864 in Washington, Lot Flannery and his brother own a monument company. Lot is a stonecutter responsible for carving the names and dates on the memorial monuments. But he dreams of being a sculptor and creating beautiful statues. Every morning a group of young women walk past the stonecutter's workshop on their way to the Washington Arsenal where they work. Lot is attracted to one of the young women and soon, the two of them form an unlikely romance. On one particular morning, Lot waves to the group as they pass. An hour later, the Washington Arsenal explodes, killing 21 women, his love among them. In his grief, Lot works day and night for weeks carving a statue. When he is finished, the statue, called Grief, is that of a young woman...his love, forever immortalized in stone. (This is based on a true account of Lot Flannery's life and work. His statue, called Grief, graces the Washington Memorial Cemetery and stands atop a 25-foot pedestal).

The Stonecutter's Gift -- another precious story from Joy Ross Davis By JudyAnn Lorenz Amazing are the little things in our history -- the little people that are often not noticed as we observe a few who held 'leading roles' in historical circumstances. These 'little people' have voices frequently in authors as do the victims of an arsenal fire at Washington DC during the War Between the States.Joy Ross Davis gives voice to these women with a story about what probably was a pattern of their day-to-day lives. Some joy, much sorrow as sickness and poverty took their toll. Still, the women and the people who cared for them worked through each day, awaiting tomorrow. Then, came the day when someone's ignorance caused the catastrophic fire, taking the lives of those who were willingly enduring their day-to-day with no plans to die. Adding to the grief already enveloping the land, expanding it to non-military people. Crushing dreams of the ones left alive. The Stonecutter's Gift shows us a man, Lot Flarnneyr with a gift to find the beauty and character hidden in a block of marble. Joy Ross Davis's elegant, moving way with words tells a story of what might have been more about Lot Flannery's life and community, while giving us a familiar glimpse of the kind angel of death we met in the earlier volume Joy Ross Davis wrote for this Murray Pura Civil War series, The Sutler of Gettysburg. Love in all facets give life to a long-forgotten story.I recommend Joy Ross Davis writing for your 'inspired reading pleasure'. She 'has a way with words' that make her stories keepers. She doesn't 'mill' out the same-old, same-old in her stories so you can read them all and enjoy differences that make each memorable. Treat yourself to some good writing which makes for great reading.

Set in the nation's capital in the 19th century it is short story of love, love lost and the generosity of a gifted man. More excellent work from the pen of Joy Ross Davis.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A moving story. By Marian Baay Joy Ross Davis writes a solid story, engaging the reader in this sweet but short romance. A wonderful, emotional tale based on a true event.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Raw, compassionate and inspiring By Jane I downloaded and read this book last night. At a basic level this book is raw, compassionate and inspiring. It is written from the heart and seeks to help others who struggle with depression and anxiety. I met Fred in high school. My most vivid memory of him was when we sat outside on the curb across the street from his house. It was dark, he was upset and there was trouble brewing in his home. He was a wounded bird and I wanted to help him mend. Fred was so sweet and kind hearted. It broke my heart to see him starring down at the pavement, brown bangs hanging over his dark, tear filled eyes. When I think back to that night my heart still hurts for his pain. But now, I see him clearly strong, confident, happy, content, successful, and an AUTHOR! I still don't know how he has slipped through so many nets :). Fred’s message is one of hope. I believe many people suffer from anxiety and depression. If you are one of them, this book may help you understand that you are not alone. This book encourages you to value your blessings, set your sights on new horizons, change what makes you unhappy and fight for your life. Thanks for sharing your journey Freddy. You have done well and you are going to FLY!!!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Good and suspenseful... By LittleDarling Having read and loved the MacKinnon Curse series, I couldn't wait to finally read "The Uninvited" by J.A. Templeton, the start of a spin-off series. In "The Uninvited, Maddy, a young girl with a troubled past, starts university in Edinburgh. On her first night she's visited by the ghost of a dead girl, Jamie. This in itself wouldn't be a big deal. She's been seeing ghosts and communicating with them since a young age.But what makes this different is that the girl had been murdered, her killer still at large and her body not yet found.Trying to help Jamie find her peace, Maddy is thrust into a world full of danger & heart-break, but also emotional turmoil as she tries to make sense of her feelings for Shane, a good friend from her hometown and Haven, Jamie's brother who needs to know what happened to his sister. As more and more details are revealed, Maddy might be putting herself at risk. She might just end up being the next victim.Maddy was a likeable character. Despite a rough childhood that still has an influence on Maddy's life, she's well-adjusted and ambitious. She's driven and wants to prove herself. At the same time she's closed off and has a hard time letting others in - partly because of being let down one time too many, partly because not many people can deal with her psychic abilities. I liked how she had an open mind, was very non-judgmental and willing to go above and beyond to help.Shane, who already was a big part of the MacKinnon Curse series is now all grown-up and visiting the same university as Maddy. Being used to ghosts since his sister is psychic as well, he's all up for helping Maddy and not allowing her to take risks. He's sweet and sexy, and could probably charm his way out of anything. There is more to him than just his good looks and charm though. He's protective and caring, willing to put others first. He's really swoonworthy. But so is Haven. He's basically the dark, while Shane is the light. Haven is brooding, distant and has that bad boy vibe. But considering his sister disappeared and he doesn't know what happened, it's easy to understand why he is not Prince Charming. He's not a bad guy though. He is just consumed by pain. Despite that, he's sexy, sweet when he wants to be and incredibly attractive.Though I loved the plot idea and the characters, I just didn't connect with them and the story the way I did with the "MacKinnon Curse" series. I'm not sure if it was intentional, but there was a lot of switching of tenses, even in moments where it didn't seem necessary. It felt a bit choppy to me and didn't let the story flow. Sometimes I missed a transition from one situation to another. I had the feeling like I missed a paragraph or two. Also, what bothered me about the characters was that they at times felt contradictory.Yet, I'll definitely am looking forward to the next book in the series, curious how it'll continue and who Maddy is going to end up with.3.5 suspenseful-and-mysterious stars.

You don't need to read the first series in order to enjoy this one By C.Powers I received an advance copy of this book for my honest review. This is a continuation in the MacKinnon world. You don't need to read the first series in order to enjoy this one, but I HIGHLY recommend you do! It was amazing! It starts with The Deepest Cut. I am not going to go into too much detail on the series because I know me, I would give spoilers. Let me just say that J.A. Templeton has created an amazing world that she completely sucks you into and the next thing you know it's 4am and you've read the whole book because you couldn't put it down and you just had to know what was going to happen next. This series does take place after the original series and we met Madison in the prior one. Templeton does a great job of explaining things from the prior books so you don't feel like you're missing something if you didn't read them. I think you would get so much more from the series if you read the MacKinnon Curse series first though. As with the first series, Templeton created wonderful characters that I could relate to and believe in and fall in love with as well. She also creates some really creepy characters and I think for me, this is where she really wins it for me. It's not a ridiculous, over the top, kind or creepy or a cheesy cliche. I find myself actually getting creeped out. It doesn't help that I always seem to read her books late at night when I am the only one awake in the house. This book kept me engrossed from start to finish and I wish I could have left a review immediately following my finishing it. Unfortunately, Amazon wouldn't let me until it was up for sale. I can't wait for the second in this series and have started rereading the MacKinnon Curse series and plan on reading this again once I finish. I hope we don't have to wait too long for the next because I just HAVE to know what happens!

By Irena This story takes place five years after The Departed.Although this is a spin-off, it is not fully tied to it's predecessor. What I'm trying to say is that you are not obligated to read The MacKinnon Curse series in order to read this one.Yeah, most of the characters are in both series, and stories are connected but are two separated pieces.Regardless, if you still haven't, I suggest you to read The MacKinnon curse because it is an enjoyable read. Our main character Madison is all grown up and she started college in Edingburgh. I enjoyed reading her story and getting to know the person she became. She is one interesting girl who's still not fully independent but is on a good way to be.It was so nice to see Shane again. I was always fond of him and I haven't change my mind. I am really looking forward to read more about him.Actually, it was nice to see everyone once again and to find out how Riley and Kade are doing. I only wish we got to know more about Cait's life.I think J.A. Templeton is really good in creating likeable characters. There is really not one character that I didn't like and although it could sometimes be a flaw, I don't think it was in this case. However, I am curious how the story will develop from this book on because what seems flawless now could easely became drawback later if not shaped right.Do I think we should have more character development trough the series? I do.But I have no doubt Templeton will do a good job, as she always does.We do have a glimpse of a love triangle but I didn't pay that much attention to it because to me it was clear who should win in this love game. Still, I want to know if I was right and where the author will take us with it.While reading this book I had a vibe I had way back when I was watching "Ghost Whisperer" TV show.If you liked watching that show, I think you would like this book. The novel ends with something I like to call The perfect cliff-hanger.It makes you wonder what is going to happen' next but doesn't leave you desperate for the sequel. You don't feel like you have to have it in your hands right away, but it does announce to you that the sequel will be soooo good and you are looking forward to read it because you know you'll enjoy it more then this book you just finished.

Wikipedia reports: "Bürger is known for German translations of Baron Munchausen’s narrative of his marvellous travels and campaigns in Russia by Rudolf Erich Raspe . . . In his introduction to the 1788 German edition, Bürger admitted to adapting and elaborating the original English-language works, and, despite his clear notice that he was doing a translation, for some time Bürger was believed to be the author of the tales."My guiess is that this is what is contained in this Kindle edition; do correct me if I'm wrong! I'm archiving it for when my German improves.

Loved this book, wished it was a full length novel By Nereid Two of my favourite female characters together in a revealing story highlighting the symmetry in their lives as well as their penchant for smart mouthed arrogant men. Tim takes us on their journey of self-discovery and I was happy to go along for the ride. So glad to have Potter back with Kiera even for just a little while and Harry's antics are always fun to read. This is another page turner that you won't want to put down.

After her father dies, Uma must ensure that the queen is with child by the time of the Dragon Moon, or be burned at the stake.Terrified and alone, Uma reaches out to her only possible ally: the king's nephew Jackrun, a fiery dragonrider with dragon, fairy, and human blood. In the Time of Dragon Moon, by Janet Lee Carey

From School Library Journal Gr 8 Up—Uma has always had difficulty finding acceptance within the Euit tribe in which she has grown up. Her father is the Adan, the Euit tribal healer, but her mother is an English midwife. Uma serves as her father's apprentice and dreams of succeeding him as Adan one day, but Euit tribal law forbids a woman as a healer. When English soldiers invade the village and abduct her father, Uma is taken with him to the royal court at Pendragon Castle, where her father is commanded to provide a cure for the queen's infertility on pain of death. When she becomes the queen's designated healer, Uma is soon embroiled in deadly court intrigues involving dragons and the fey folk. She also finds herself involved with Jackrun, a Pendragon prince who is part dragon and struggles to control the fire within him. Together, Uma and Jackrun must discover the perpetrator of a political murder and reconcile the warring factions within the kingdom, even as they reconcile their own divided natures. Set in the same world as Carey's Dragon's Keep (Harcourt, 2007) and Dragonswood(Dial, 2012), this title can be read independently, but knowledge of events in the previous books would be helpful. The author's world-building is detailed and fascinating, and Uma is a strong, admirable heroine. This is a must-purchase for libraries owning the earlier installments and a great choice for where teen fantasy is popular.—Kathleen E. Gruver, Burlington County Library, Westampton, NJ

Masterfully Written By Alicia @ A Kernel of Nonsense Uma Quarteney, the daughter of the Adan, an Euit healer, and an English midwife, is determined to defy convention and become the first female Adan in her father’s tribe. News of her father’s infertility cure has spread throughout Wilde Island and the Queen, desperate for another child, orders her soldiers to bring the Adan to Pendragon Castle to cure her. When Uma’s father dies, the burden passes to his daughter, who knows failure will not only end her life but her tribe’s. Despite all her effort, time is running out. On Dragon’s Keep, Uma finds an unlikely ally in Jackrun, the King’s nephew and firstborn of a legendary prophesy. When tragedy strikes the Pendragon family, taking the life of one of their own, Uma and Jackrun discover it may not have been accidental at all, but the opening move in a larger scheme.I am in love with Janet Lee Carey’s Dragonswood, so I was delighted to discover that this book contained several familiar faces, even if they only made small appearances. A new layer to Carey’s world is discovered in In the Time of Dragon Moon, the third installment in the Wild Island Chronicles. Readers have already met with dragons, fey, and the English inhabitants of Wilde Island. Uma’s perspective explores the beliefs and customs of the native islanders. Half Euit and half English, Uma’s journey takes her from her home among her tribe to the foreign and often stringent formalities of the English court. And though her circumstances change, Uma struggles to reconcile who she is and who she wants to be when both worlds seek to limit her opportunities. She is subjected to threats and prejudice, but through it all she learns to accept herself and not to compromise her ambitions.Jackrun is the first to have human, dragon, and fey in his blood. To many this means he is destined to rule, despite the fact that he isn’t the heir to the Pendragon throne. Chivalrous and kind, it’s hard not to see that he would make a just leader, but there is more dragon in Jackrun than the dragon scales that can be found on his arm. He struggles with his fire-breathing ability, an ability that has made him feel like an outcast in his own family. Both Jackrun and Uma don’t quite fit in among their own people. For Uma, her struggle is with being half English and a female healer in a tribe that values tradition. For Jackrun, his gift and the prophesy of his birth feel more like a curse and burden. Despite this, Uma is accepting of Jackrun’s gift and he in turn encourages her aspirations. In the Time of Dragon Moon explores themes of identity, prejudice, and madness. With cunning characters and high stakes, this third installment is as delightful as the last.

It had magic, romance, action, and betrayal all wrapped in an engrossing fairy tale. It was also powerfully and beautifully written. I only wish the arc had a map for me to consult (but the finished copy will have one!). In the Time of Dragon Moon is actually sequel to Dragonswood, a gem that I found in the library one afternoon not knowing much about it. You can certainly read Dragon Moon separately and nothing about the story is diminished. However reading Dragonswood first adds so much nuance and history to the world and characters. It’s set in this really interesting alternate medieval England ruled by the Pendragon family, who I believe are supposed to be descended from King Arthur. There are three islands that make up the country, along with fairies, dragons, and a native population, all of whom coexist uneasily with the English. It creates this environment rife with political and cultural tension, as well as lots of exhilarating action and sneaky character motives.I loved Uma. She was such a strong, interesting character caught between two worlds in more ways than one. The pull between her English and Euit sides, and the pull between her womanhood and being a healer in her culture gave her this fascinating character arc. I liked watching her reconcile her fears and dreams and finding a path to follow that made her happy. I liked learning about the Euit culture, especially the animal moons and how they affected life. And her relationship with Queen Adela was chilling. It was filled with hated and mistrust along with sympathy and pity, her healer’s oath warring with her real feelings about the queen. But most of all I loved her relationship with Jackrun. They were both outcasts in a sense for different reasons and watching them learn to trust each other, to build a friendship, and the way Jackrun continually stood up for Uma while also respecting and nurturing her was wonderful. I looooved Jackrun! My favorite part of the story was how Janet Lee Carey wove her unique dragon mythology into her alternate medieval setting. There are different types of dragons with their own dragon culture, some of whom treat with humans, some who won’t. And in the Pendragon bloodline, humans can be born with dragon scales and dragon traits. The fairies are less unique but no less interesting. They are magnanimous and beautiful and frightening. I loved the intermixing of species and cultures in the story; they each had their own part to play. This book was just a wonderful concoction of history, magic, passion, brutality, forgiveness, love, and fantasy creatures. And even a murder mystery, I always love seeing how those are pieced together. If you enjoy lyrical prose, a fascinating cast of characters, rich worldbuilding, slow burn romance, and dragons, you have to read In The Time of Dragon Moon!

My favorite of the 3!I connected with it right away because of Uma (the main character) is a strong willed, smart, and kind hearted person who loves to help people through medicinal ways despite the fact she isn't allowed to do so in her village because of the fact that she is female. Following her through her story and the pain and heartache, as well as the love that she experiences is just amazing. Janet Lee Carey is wonderful at explaining details and I can easily imagine what she describes. She does an excellent job at capturing each characters emotion. My favorite part about this is of course the romance (I'm a sucker for it). There are quite a few tender moments and I just adore each of them.I HIGHLY recommend this book and I hope many people will enjoy it as much as I did.Seriously, LOVE this book. I'm going to read it again soon!
