By Vi the Vi3tBabe I’ve enjoyed this series from the very beginning and I’m pretty sad to see it end. I loved that Oh kept the momentum going throughout the series, keeping me glued to the stories and invested in the characters. Prophecy introduced readers to a great set of characters, especially Kira, and I loved seeing them all grow and develop. King was exactly the kind of ending I was hoping for. There was plenty of action with mythical creatures, emotional moments between friends and family, and even some pivotal deaths that I didn’t see coming.Kira was, by far, the best part of this series. I loved her character so much! She’s so brave, strong, and loyal. She also had her funny, witty moments, too, which I loved. She was up against a very powerful enemy who threatened to destroy everything she loved, so seeing her overcome her reservations that she’s “not good enough” and embracing the idea of being the “Dragon Musado” was great. Things changed a lot for Kira in this last book and it was gripping seeing how she handled everything. Her emotions and turmoil were written so well, I really felt for the girl. She definitely surprised me at the end and it nice to see her finally bear her heart and soul to the world.Much of the book is Kira and her friends preparing for the battle against the Dark Lord, so there isn’t a lot of battle scenes, but Oh gives readers enough action and intrigue to keep the story going. I honestly never felt bored while reading this book. Everything just flowed nicely and fit well with the progression of these characters and their story. Oh gives you just the right amount of detail. The fantasy and magic aspect of the book was amazing, and I loved that Oh threw in a bit of humor and romance to spice things up, which totally added to the appeal of the book.Overall, King is an amazing conclusion to one of my favorite fantasy reads. It’s on the lighter side of fantasy, I’ll give you that, but that’s exactly the kind I tend to like. The story is unique and riveting and I love the sense of empowerment and strength Oh conveys with her characters, especially Kira. She’s definitely one of my all-time favorite YA heroines. If you’ve read the rest of the series, you’ll definitely want to see how it ends, and you won’t be disappointed. If you’ve yet to start the series, get on it now, because it is unbelievably awesome and a series I”ve already added to my “favorites” shelf.

Thanks to HarperCollins and Edelweiss.)This was an okay end to the series, but I did lose interest in places.Kira continued to be strong in this story, although she did break down at one point. I understood her devastation over what happened though, and she proved that at heart she was both a fighter, and a human.The storyline in this was okay, and it wrapped things up nicely. I did lose focus at points though, and the romance didn’t really interest me. There was a bit of an unexpected twist in there that Kira didn’t take well.The ending was good, and Kira finally got what she wanted!6 out of 10

The romance part feels quite forced, and basically the events and plot feel a bit more primitive than they used to before.As well so some lack of consistency in things. For example the "evil" monks, we are shown some of the things that they do, that clearly support the idea. Then suddenly like with a snap of the fingers, like "Oh so you have tiger spirit - then we are now very sorry and very good monks" Never mind assassination attempts kidnappings and introduction of evil water spirits to prey on villagers.

These discussions helped the student (who was from a non-Christian agnostic background) to move from agnosticism to theism (belief in God) and a commitment to Christ. Audrey is a university student, petite, blue-eyed and brunette, who is studying to be a nurse. She was brought up in a non-Christian home. In junior high, she started hanging out with the wrong crowd. As a result, she got into trouble of the sorts that are not uncommon to teenagers. After some years of this, and after some failed relationships (looking for meaning and love in those relationships) she concluded that life is meaningless, and the search for meaning in relationships is pointless. Some time later, a friend invited her to a Christian camp. Audrey was touched by the love and unconditional acceptance of the Christians at this camp. This started a process of her looking into Christianity. In that process, Audrey had many questions that needed answers. This book presents some of the questions and answers that helped to address her intellectual concerns and open the door for her to commit her life to Christ. This book includes a subset of her questions, in particular on (a) free will, (b) free will in heaven, (c) free-will & sin in heaven; (d) heaven, (e) God’s regret, (f) God killing people, (g) God permitting the killing of people, (h) God’s anger, (i) God’s people, (j) election, (k) is God selfless, (l) the free will-love theodicy, (m) God’s apparent inaction, and (n) wisdom. I love how John spends ample amount of time working through each of the Agnostic's question. There is much sensitivity taken when working through each question and each answer is very clear. I recommend this book regularly to my peers who are wrestling with big and maybe some unique questions that they may have about the Christian worldview.

About the Author J.M. Barrie was born in 1860, the ninth of ten children of hard-working parents in Scotland's jute-weaving industry. Fascinated by stories of her own life told him by his mother, he was determined to write, finding work on the Nottingham Journal after graduating from Edinburgh University. In 1885, he moved to London as a freelance writer and successfully sold the Auld Licht Idylls, a volume based on his mother's tales. By the time Peter Pan opened on the London stage in 1904, Barrie had written more than thirty novels and plays, many autobiographical and several of them major hits such as The Little Minister, Quality Street and The Admirable Crichton. Knighted and awarded the Order of Merit he continued writing into old age. He died in 1937.

It's actually about a society of killers-- not murderers or assasins, just people who kill other people if they don't like them or don't agree with their views or consider them a drain on society. It's an okay book... but not what I wanted.

From School Library Journal Gr 7 Up—McKay continues writing in the vein of war and unrest with her latest. Pax, a teenage orphan boy, has been raised in the slums of an unidentified country. He is the eldest in the orphanage and has taken the youngest, Kai, under his wing. After their caregiver passes away, Kai and Pax are forced to live on the streets. The boys survive by taking odd jobs. McKay does an extraordinary job displaying how little the protagonists know about the modern world. When introduced to air conditioning in a car, they believe they are experiencing some sort of miracle. The story picks up speed when one of Pax's jobs leads him to deliver a package that he realizes too late is a bomb, and it detonates, killing many people. The boys get away from the blast in time only to be arrested for terrorism. While in prison, Pax endures great torture at the hands of the government. These scenes, though not graphic, are quite haunting. To avoid the pain, the young man slips into a dream world, which some readers may find distracting from the realistic tone of the rest of the story. The book starts off slow and confusing, making the setting seem muddled, but the further readers get, the clearer the narrative becomes. Pax and Kai are outstanding characters that are fully developed. VERDICT This is a strong choice for those seeing something meaty for middle schoolers but would also suit older readers. Pax takes care of Kai when he was left at the orphanage as a baby. Pax named him Kai. In this book you will follow their lives living on the streets. Pax unknowing carries a bomb that explodes and causes Pax and Kai to go to prison. Pax is rationed 50 lashes a day on his feet until he tells the truth. Does Pax tell? What happens to Pax?This is a book that helped me "walk in their shoes" even though at times I didn't want to. The subject of this novel of abandoned children living in a country with civil unrest/war is one that many of us do not think about or even acknowledge--much less about torture done to innocent people regardless of are. I am glad that I had the opportunity to read this story. It is heartbreaking at times yet one hopes that torture is stopped today by us. This is a necessary book about a subject not written about -torture of orphaned children.Disclaimer: I received an arc of this book free from the author/publisher from Netgalley. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. An Adorable Romance By Lanise Brown Honestly, I thought this book was going to be a total bore. However, I was delightfully mistaken. What's the old adage? Don't judge a book by its cover. Well, that's one of the themes of The Point of View.Written by Elinor Glyn and published in 1913, The Point of View is entertaining even though the lovemaking in the book is considered mild by today's standards. Actually, I'm pretty sure that making love back in the early 1900's meant to court or woo someone. So, yeah, there's no sex in these pages, folks.The story opens in the Grand Hotel in Rome with a young woman named Stella. While Stella's at dinner with her aunt and uncle and they're discussing matters that, well, aren't particularly interesting, a peculiar man named Sasha Roumovski enters the room. Suddenly, everyone's eyes are on him and it's not because Sasha is attractive. It's quite the opposite.The story's premise is that Stella's hedged in by her domineering aunt, uncle, their maid, and her soon to be fiance, a priest by the name of Rev. Eustace Medlicott. Stella can't stand her betrothed and during her stay at the hotel, she's entranced by Sasha Roumovski, a man unlike anyone she's ever seen before.Her relatives call him ugly and distasteful. But Stella sees differently. Through her various meetings with Sasha, she changes her point of view about life and love.Stella is so naive and innocent that I couldn't help but laugh. Her rebellious streak is one reason I enjoyed this book. Stella eventually takes control of her life and refuses to be shoved around by others any longer. With the help of Sasha, she unleashes a side of herself that she never knew existed.There are a few down sides to the book, however. The reoccurring use of exclamations points throughout the book got on my nerves! Also, Gyln had a few instances of narrator intrusion at the start of the story that she seemed to avoid through the rest of the book, thankfully. Numerous adverbs on the dialogue tags bugged me constantly as well, but that's just my personal preference.In the end, I laughed and loved the last line of dialogue in the book. This story is too adorable. I wouldn't let its imperfections scare you away. If you want a great message and the possibility of taking a closer look at your own life, you'll probably enjoy the Point of View.

Heins Hugh de Cressi and Red Eve flee from Blythburgh, England to avoid her arranged marriage to Edmund Acour, Lord of Cattrina, a French Aristocrat. Red Eve was "one of the greatest heiresses in East Anglia," the daughter of Sir John, the Knight of Clavering. Hugh was only a merchant's son, but they were childhood sweethearts. Acour (Edmund of Noyon) was a Norman spy plotting against King Edward, and proof of this was discovered when his correspondence with King Philip of France was intercepted. Hugh rode to London to alert the King, and in the meantime Edmund Acour drugged Eve and forced her to marry him. The ceremony was interrupted by Hugh, and Acour escaped to France.Hugh de Cressi goes off to war and is knighted, and the English take Calais. Acour escapes him by switching his armor with another man at the battle at Crecy to avoid de Cressi's vengeance. Acour flees to Genoa, then Venice, and Hugh follows. When Hugh finally confronts his nemesis, there are supernatural rumblings and a mysterious plague--the beginning of the black plague.I won't spoil the ending by telling you if Hugh finally kills Edmund Acour and marries Red Eve.Haggard is known for his swashbuckling adventures and this one travels through Europe. However, if you don't like the old-fashioned writing style of Dumas or Hugo you won't like it.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. nothing eye popping, but not bad By Stephen V. Driscoll The book is decent enough, and is sort of a count of Monte Cristo story, but luckily doesn't drag quite as much, but then again, nothing eye popping... I liked it, but didn't love the story.

A 14th century romance with plenty of intrigue, action, travel, and historical detail By Andorrac A romance that follows the struggles of a sturdy 14th century member of the minor gentry to retrieve his love, Red Eve, from the foul nobleman who forces her into marriage with the help of her father and a corrupt priest. Plenty of intrigue, action, travel, and historical detail, including a description of the famous battle of Crécy. I cannot say how accurate that historical detail is, but it's a fun read if you are not put off by prejudicial attitudes toward the French and the Roman Catholic church.
