And I Love Her By Stacie Theis And I Love Her is a lovely story of friendship, love, and family that brings different social classes together and changes many lives forever.The Earl, a stern man, is happy his son Edward is finally going to give him a grandchild, but when he learns his stepson James is also expecting a child with one of the household staff he acts quickly to protect the family name and fortune. The Earl doesn't realize that James has already married Felicity and with James heading to fight in a war, paying her to leave is easy. Edward and his wife Caroline have a son named Henry and a few months later Felicity, who now resides in a workhouse, gives birth to a little girl, who she names Faith. Several years pass, but then a chance meeting changes everything.And I Love Her is a fun read full of lively and eccentric characters that will both intrigue and delight readers. The close bond that the family shares as they overcome adversity is heartwarming and ultimately leads to a happy ending.I recommend picking up a copy.

Ms. Elliott's story about family and love is well worth the price of admission. The characters are well rounded and easy to become attached to with a plot line that allows a casual reader to sit back and enjoy the ride. My favorite character is the uncle, with all his well meaning intentions, and his son who wants to both find love and tow the line. It's a great weekend read, which I recommend to anyone looking for an escape.

Stratford gives a fun-filled and energetic MIKADO By Hazen B Markoe While some Gilbert & Sullivan devotees may quibble with this Canadian version of their masterpiece, THE MIKADO, there's no denying this version's infectious energy and fun. This production by the Stratford Festival is awash with high-jinks antics, solid acting and a boldness rarely seen since the Kevin Kline/Linda Ronstadt version of THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE. Director Brian Macdonald directs this production with a sure hand and a fine sense of humor. Eric Donkin makes for a solid and delightfully uptight Ko-Ko, while the tall and very lanky Richard McMillan steals the show as the self important Pooh-Bah. Marie Baron's Yum-Yum is a pure delight, and Karen Wood is a delightful Pitti-Sing. Gidon Saks makes for a rather hammy, but delightfully fierce, Mikado. Henry Ingram seems a little old for the youthful Nanki-Poo, but he definitely gets into the spirit of this wonderfully broad production. Some fans may not appreciate the "modern" Canadian references nor the very slight liberties in the score, but this is probably the one production that doesn't treat the immortal work like a museum piece. This is definitely the best version on DVD to date and one that I would definitely recommend.

By A Customer This is the version done at the Stratford Festival in the late 80s with Eric Donkin and Marie Baron. The staging is very sparse, but quite well done. This new version is not as high quality as the earlier (more expensive) version, but well worth the $17. Purists beware -- some of the songs have been gutted and the lyrics have been changed!

The Stratford Festival's version of "The Mikado" was wonderful. While we are relatively new to the works of G&S, this production was by far the best we've seen. The Canadian "flare" in "They'll None of 'Em Be Missed" brought back many, many fond memories of the times we've spent in Canada and of our first exposure to "The Mikado" in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Stratford's cast will live forever in their lively and thoroughly entertaining "Mikado." We look forward to many more enjoyable evenings listening to and watching the banter between Ko-Ko and Pooh-Bah. Thanks to Stratford (and AMAZON.COM) we're anxiously awaiting delivery of "The Pirates of Penzance" and "Iolanthe." G&S lives! Tom & Carol Weber Chesterfield, MO, USA

By pretendgardener I know (knew) nothing about Ancient Rome. This book (a deeply researched, fictionalized account of true events) was recommended to me by someone I know and I'm so glad for that. The story is filled with adventure (battles), romance (this guy loves his family!), political intrigue (it is Rome, after all) and personal conflict/soul-searching. What kept me going was the perfectly placed but concise explanations of terms, practices, ancient Roman culture about which I was fairly uneducated. It was like Dan Wallace read my mind and bailed me out just when I thought I was irretrievably lost in unfamiliar territory. That and the overwhelming need to know what happens next . If you're a fan of I Claudius, or Reign, or Wolf Hall (or none of these) you should love this book. I say, bring on the sequel!

The story focuses on one individual, tracing his career at the center of Rome's military exploits and political life in the second century BCE, but it is peopled with a wide assortment of believable and empathetic characters, most treated with deep humanity and sympathy. Villains abound, as well, and copious amounts of blood are spilled in this recreation of a violent epoch. The author's skillful portrayal of Ancient Roman life and the city itself help create a feeling of intimacy with the narrative. The unfamiliar becomes familiar. I found the book hard to put down and was sorry when I reached the end.

Great story, bring on book 2 By Fiona Wilson This book drags you in from the very first pages, with main character Tilly running from something, or someone, although we aren't sure exactly what, or who, it is until much later in the story.I love stories with supernatural creatures, and this one was no exception. We not only have witches, but also werewolves. Tilly finds herself involved with a group of people who have a secret, one they don't want getting out for fear of retaliation. But Tilly also has a secret, one which she isn't willing to share with them, but for very different fears.This isn't just a paranormal story, it also has its fair share of romance. Tilly finds herself in the middle of something which she will need to dig deep to work through. There are more than a few twists and turns throughout which make her choice a little bit harder. She needs to work out if she can trust anyone, or is she truly on her own?This story is written very well, all of the characters are engaging, and I honestly didn't want it to end. The author leaves us with a cliffhanger ending, and I am desperate to know what happens next!Great story, with promises of something greater to come. Bring on book 2!Many thanks to the author for providing me with a copy in return for an honest review.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Werewolves and witches don't mix well By LexySky It took me a while to decide if I want to give this book three or four stars. But then it's me having issues with the heroine and not with the story so I decided for a very well written, captivating and compelling story, with very complex characters and unexpected twists, a background that played in my head like a movie and decidedly bad villains (I always enjoy those). Even though I could have strangled Tilly at least twice for her extreme dumbness and cruelty that I can't excuse with her age and inexperience. If you don't like love triangles you will have your problems too. And Dominic is just too good to be true, if it wasn't a fantasy novel I would have felt him too much. Spencer on the other hand is great, completely and all around, with all his flaws and all his darkness. I absolutely rooted for him! The book ends with a mean cliffhanger, forces you to read on quite nicely and since the love triangle is sorted out by then (at least I really hope it is) I will definitely look into the next book of this series.

By Dreamer talks books Something witchy!!!Welcome to Tilly's world the only problem is she was adopted by a claim of evil witches that abused her from day one. Once she became of age she ran away only to find herself in a world of magic and shape-shifters. There she met Spencer, he can relate to her because he is not excepted by his pack. He is drawn to her, but the only problem is he is not the only one and the biggest threat of all is that they do not know what Tilly's is and that can destroy the whole pack. This is what I live for all paranormal, all time great read!!!!I was given this book in exchange for my honest review.

Insight into the mind and soul of a swordsman By Hugh As a long time HEMA practitioner and full-time novelist, I've always struggled with writing gripping fight scenes. As a swordsman, I know how a fight should go, and as a writer, I know that detailing that would be boring as hell! So how do you find that middle ground? Guy explains that, and many other things.This books is filled with insightful and reflective articles on a lifetime of martial arts training, specifically, working with the sword. Anyone who wants to understand what it feels like to be a swordsman, to get into that mindset, would do well to study this accessible book. I've yet to meet Guy in person, but he's on my bucket list!

Now I'm an educated, unpracticed novice.Seriously, Guy Windsor's work is pretty amazing. I have never known so much about how little I know - from swords to push ups. (Check out The Little Book of Pushups, The Swordsman's Companion, etc). Totally worth the time!

A wonderful compelling epic novel about the rite of passage By Irina Levin A wonderful compelling epic novel about the rite of passage, indomitable young love, gangsters, heartbreak and war. Marco Giannini, as a young immigrant, is overwhelmed by the culture shock of his new country but soon learns how to protect himself from the ruthless and cruel young men that want to extort and dominate him and his close immigrant friends. He meets a beautiful young girl named Francesca and falls in love head over heels. But it’s not meant to be as her family’s parochial dictates, and her gangster brother’s plan to use Francesca’s beauty for his rise in the local mob, demand Francesca marry a man of position and stature. They categorically dismiss the notion of a future union with an unworthy Marco. Marco and his friends go through the trials and tribulations of adolescence in a rough neighborhood where honor and respect mean everything and the lure of the local mob is ever-present and enticing. Marco reaches the age of majority and soon finds himself in the US Army at one of the most turbulent times in US history. He is sent to Vietnam as a company clerk and survives friendly and enemy fire, mortar and rocket attacks. He receives a medal for bravery as his vigilance and quick actions saved him and many soldiers from certain death. Marco returns to the US and resumes his pursuit of happiness with his plans to marry his beloved Francesca at any cost. An unimaginable tragic turn of events leaves Marco in despair and despondent for months, at some point contemplating suicide. Life sometimes turns tragedy into ecstasy and after reading this outstanding novel, the reader will know there is a master plan for your life, but it’s not made by you. A page turner from cover to cover, you will not want to put this book down. You will laugh, cry, cheer and jeer as events keep surprising you. The reader will reflect on this superb, inspiring and poignant story for a long time.

I've just finished reading Many Shades of Gray and am very excited about this relatively new but talented author.Although the book is a hefty 535 pages, I breezed through it, relishing every page and every chapter. Carl Turco does a masterful job of bringing to life the travails and triumphs that Marco Giannini, a recent immigrant from Italy, faced adapting to the rough and tough streets of New York City, teeming with street gangs and future leaders of organized crime.I was touched with the author's handling of Marco's unrequited love with Francesca and also with his mother's woes. But I was heartened and joyful every time Marco and his fellow band of colorful immigrant friends stood their ground and prevailed against the street toughs.The adventure gets even more interesting and exciting when Marco and several of his friends get sent to Vietnam. With his uncanny skill of description, the author brings the Vietnam War to life so vividly, it feels as though it was happening now. The author liberally sprinkles the pages of the book with philosophical viewpoints that made me re-think how life should be looked at, and offers solutions on how we can all contribute to a more loving and just society.

One read it speedy, because the style is easy and the approach is without particular difficulties. But the constructions aren't obvious, because the events happen at different levels. We know the love story of Marco and Francesca, which at end has solution for the passion. Other situations born by Vietnam war and also by the power in Usa of Italian Mafia. The style remains nice and important in the loving, but it is less considered in the historical context. The pleasure of reading allows us to observe such several aspects.

By Char's Horror Corner 4.5 stars!This collection of horror stories written in the gothic style really, REALLY worked well for me.For the modern horror reader, gothic style means that these tales contain very little blood and gore. It also means that the language used is usually rather flowery and descriptive. In this case, the language used was beautiful, but NOT flowery and going on and on about the scenery and whatnot.The fact that there was very little blood and gore does not make these tales any less horrific. The stories about a young virgin bride, and a science experiment gone very, very wrong, are truly terrible and actually SCARY. I'm very rarely disturbed by horror stories, but I was disturbed by these. In fact, I just LOVED them.This edition has a nice intro by Stephen Graham Jones and the afterword by the ultra knowledgeable Kim Newman, (which resulted in my adding a few more books to my HUGE TBR), made for nice bookends to these gothic gold nuggets.I highly recommend this book to fans of gothic style stories and beautiful writing!
