Review "All the characters in this tale were well-defined, strong, and memorable. Whenever I put this book down, my head would remain full of them for long periods after." - Austenesque Reviews"I fell in love with the Earl when Rebecca did." - Obsessed by Mr. Darcy

About the Author L.L. Diamond is more commonly known as Leslie to her friends and Mom to her three kids. A native of Louisiana, she has spent the majority of her life living within an hour of New Orleans until she vowed to follow her husband to the ends of the earth as a military wife. Louisiana, Mississippi, California, Texas, New Mexico, Nebraska, and now England have all been called home along the way. After watching Sense and Sensibility with her mother, Leslie became a fan of Jane Austen, reading her collected works over the next few years. Pride and Prejudice stood out as a favorite and has dominated her writing since finding Jane Austen Fan Fiction. Aside from mother and writer, Leslie considers herself a perpetual student. She has degrees in biology and studio art, but will devour any subject of interest simply for the knowledge. As an artist, her concentration is in graphic design, but watercolor is her medium of choice with one of her watercolors featured on the cover of her second book, A Matter of Chance. She is a member of the Jane Austen Society of North America. Leslie also plays flute and piano, but much like Elizabeth Bennet, she is always in need of practice! Leslie’s books include Rain and Retribution, A Matter of Chance, An Unwavering Trust, and the upcoming The Earl’s Conquest.

By Mira of Obsessed with Mr Darcy Until now, I had no idea I can enjoy a JAFF book when the story is not about Elizabeth and Darcy. The Earl's Conquest just showed me I can. The books I've read so far kept the love story of Lizzy and Darcy even if not as a main plot. Although they appear here too on the first and the last chapter (and for a few pages between), but there's no stress on them. The bookcover itself says that it's a prequel to An Unwavering Trust; where my favourite character from was Grandmamma (néé Rebecca Fairchild), Darcy's grandmother. This book tells her love story with Lord Matlock (who was Lady Catherine de Bourgh's father). The characters are very well written, especially Rebecca. I've enjoyed seeing the little Lady Catherine. She was around 7 in this story and it was good to see. Advantage that she wasn't 'overwritten'. I mean we can see she is very formal, cold and soulless, but she doesn't have an unnecessary scene, namely, she doesn't cause any problem but at the same time she is herself.I fell in love with the Earl when Rebecca did. I believe it was mentioned in Unwavering, that Rebecca and Elizabeth has a lot in common. It was well explained, and you can see all the common points. In a subplot we can read about a few (all sorts of) love stories. We can find quotes from P&P spoken by other characters, for e.g. Lord Matlock got some of Darcy's lines. The only thing I didn't understand is the first chapter indicates Grandma will tell the story in 1st person singular, but it is not. Actually it's not a problem because I've enjoyed it anyway, and it's eye-catching only at the last sentence of the first chapter and the first sentence of the 2nd chapter. However I was able to follow the connections, in an appendix there could have been a family tree.If you doubt you can enjoy a story without Elizabeth and Darcy, start with this!

It was a delightful read from the grandmother's telling of her love story with her husband as Lizzy lay in bed in labor with her second child. It was a very touching story that reminded the reader of Elizabeth's impertinent ways as to that of the grandmother's ways. The grandfather, the Earl, was much different than Darcy as he went after the woman he loved with zesto and fought til he won her over to marriage. It is well written in words and actions of the characters. I loved the fact that the grandmother was doing the telling of the story and it was entertaining the way it was told.It was a pleasure to go back in an earlier time of previous relations of the families in the P & P variations. Ms. Diamond did a wonderful way of writing linking his grandparents to Darcy and Elizabeth and brought much joy to the both of them to hear the love story similar to their own love story.Thank you for an enjoyable read and this novel rates just as highly as all of your other novels I have reviewed!

By ArkansasAustenFan Wonderful to read Lady Rebecca Fitzwilliam's story. Grandmamma was my favorite character in the previous work, An Unwavering Trust. I love it when authors think outside the box and bring us new situations for Darcy and Lizzy. We were introduced to the brandy flask in the previous novel, and now we know how it came about...as well as the rumor of cigars. What an amazing young lady who became the charming and powerful, Lady Matlock. The most endearing setting for the telling of her story, during Lizzy's confinement, was just the icing on the cake. Once you have enjoyed The Earl's Conquest, be sure to read An Unwavering Trust. It will complete the story for you. I recommend all of L.L. Diamond's books. If you like modern Darcy and Lizzy stories then read A matter of Chance and then the other one for our precious couple is Rain and Retribution. Gems one and all.
