Khaled stood in the third heaven, which is the heaven of precious stones, and of Asrael, the angel of Death. In the midst of the light shed by the fruit of the trees Asrael himself is sitting, and will sit until the day of the resurrection from the dead, writing in his book the names of those who are to be born, and blotting out the names of those who have lived their years and must die. Each of the trees has seventy thousand branches, each branch bears seventy thousand fruits, each fruit is composed of seventy thousand diamonds, rubies, emeralds, carbuncles, jacinths, and other precious stones. The stature and proportions of Asrael are so great that his eyes are seventy thousand days' journey apart, the one from the other.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. ignore the ridiculous cover and read the book... By K. Kennedy "Khaled" by F. Marion Crawford is a novel about a jinn who offends Allah, but who is allowed a chance to redeem himself by becoming human and winning the love of a woman. Written over 100 years ago, it contains many of the romantic notions of Islam of the time, without the modern prejudices. The story can drag a bit in places, but is a very pleasant romance overall.
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Francis Marion: knows about love more than anyone. By Red F. Marion must be read by everybody. I learned about him by an adaptation made for a film made in Mexico about 50 years ago. I wanted to read the book (The white sister) and then could not stop looking for his other books. Try this book and you will be hooked. The dialogues, situations and manifestations of ¨love¨ are exceptional. And he NEVER repeats himself. Is as if different persons were writing his books
